8 MOON PHASE

The phases of the Moon are the ratio of the illuminated side of the Moon seen by an observer (usually on Earth) to the total visible surface of the Moon. The Moon, like the Earth , does not emit light of its own. It reflects the light it receives from the Sun. Therefore, depending on the Moon's position relative to the Earth and the Sun , a certain part of the Moon appears illuminated and the other part appears dark.

It appears in shapes such as crescent, half moon and full moon, which are called the phases of the Moon .

The full moon phase, when the entire surface of the Moon is visible, is seen when the side of the Moon facing the Earth is opposite the Sun. When the Moon is exactly between the Sun and the Earth, the illuminated side is not visible from the Earth at all. This phase is called the new moon . A full moon is seen approximately two weeks later. 29.5 days after the first new moon, the Moon passes opposite the Sun again and a new moon is seen again.
