4 Symbols(Elements)
The concept of four elements has generally been used in some beliefs to express creation, and in others to express the environments of the material universe at different levels of subtlety. According to the inner (esoteric) alchemists who use this concept in symbolism, earth is the symbol of the physical plane (environment, world), water is the symbol of the energetic plane, air is the symbol of the psychic plane, and fire is the symbol of the mental plane. When the four elements are ranked, fire is shown as the highest or most subtle, while earth is the lowest or grossest. Of the four elements, fire generally symbolizes the spirit; air and water symbolize the subtle planes; and earth symbolizes the physical environment.
